Partners In Grind

Hello -

I’ve missed you, Misfits! I pray you’ve been well.

In true Misfit fashion, we’ve managed to birth another small business. What began as an attempt to avoid cholesterol meds, has become Partners in Grind, LLC.

Backstory: In 2015, my husband suffered a back injury at work; he had surgery in 2018. Afterwards, he hit his highest weight of 437 pounds. Once he healed, he committed to losing the weight. He has been successful; down to 270 pounds...all natural weight loss! 😝

My story: I had my own major surgery in 2019; two actually, six months apart. Needless to say, the healing process was long and grueling, so I too gained weight. In May 2020, we had our bi-annual family photoshoot. I didn’t like what I saw:

At first, I was like, “I’ll have lipo”. Welllllll, at my consultation, I discovered that I have a separated ab muscle. That means a tummy tuck, not lipo. Ummm nope, no thanks, HARD PASS! Skip to April 2021, my PCP said, “Ummmm, so you have 90 days to drop 15 pounds, change your diet, and get active or I’m prescribing you cholesterol meds. I had to take the meds. Head just hard SMH. I committed to working out & recruited an accountability partner. She committed out of concern for me and she was in a wedding six months later LOL.

On our first workout day, we were both hoping the other didn’t call or show up. As we began to stretch, in walks my husband. “Sir, what you doing in here?” To which he replied, “Ya’ll gonna be back here playing. I’m here to help.” We knew he was right. Two days later, my accountability partner recruited her mom. We’ve been committed ever since.

SN: After 3 weeks of taking the meds consistently, my shins began to ache. I adopted fish oil, sea moss gel, and blackseed oil…oh and celery juice. I quit the prescribed meds because of the shin side effect and I haven’t looked back. Cholesterol in check!!! 💪🏿

Per usual, we would post snippets of our workouts on social media. Our group grew to five with family and friends. About six months in, our group decided we should develop a business and Partners in Grind was born. Currently, we have a group of about 8-10, all ages, with different goals. Our motto is “we get tired, but we don’t quit”. We laugh, cry, pray, worship, fuss, and exercise. We get what we need in the Grind Lab.

I credit this experience and group with helping me heal - mind, body, and spirit. I appreciate the support and camaraderie. It’s a no judgment zone. While in this space, I have to shout out my husband for pushing each of us and his commitment to helping us on our fitness journey. We definitely think he is crazy for the way he pushes us and some of these exercises (LMBO), but we see results and are better for it. Coach K don’t play…that’s what we say in the lab.

At some point I will post before and after pics, testimonials, and a chat with Coach K. In the meantime, here are some of the members of Partners in Grind.

Going non-stop to reach our goals.
