Truth: Fantasy or Fallacy?

It is said that no one should tell your story (doesn't stop em from trying tho, ugh). No matter how you tell it, someone will find fault.

"Just tell me the truth" has been said more times than I care to count. From childhood to marriage, if I had a dollar each time I've heard the phrase, I would be set for life. Each time, sharing my truth has been met with "buuuuut", "it'll be fine", "pray about it", "get over it", or "if it were easy, everyone would do it", or my favorite "girl, you tripping". 🙄 *insert eye roll* Why must you attempt to edit someone else's truth? Buuuuut it's different when it's your truth right? Okay, got it, got it! (see what I did there?😏) In most cases, I find these answers minimizing, insulting, or dismissive. As a result of telling my truth, feelings have been hurt, egos bruised, altered relationships, and ended friendships.

Truth is a fantasy and a fallacy. Very few can truly handle truth. It isn't based on opinions; it's factual and/or emotional. Sometimes truth doesn't make any sense. Sometimes it isn't right or wrong; it is simply truth 🤷🏿‍♀️. Truth is here to heal, to help and to forge understanding. Stop trying to change its narrative.

Truth burns for a moment; lies damage people. Tell your truth, but the truth too.

"When the truth presents itself, the wise person sees the light, takes it in, and makes adjustments. The fool tries to adjust the truth so he does not have to adjust to it."

-Henry Cloud
